January 2024, Portland, OR was hit with unusual and extreme winter storms over the course of week, including snow, temperatures in the single digits, followed by freezing rain. The end result left a thick glaze on everything, making movement around town very challenging.
We struggled to keep the hummingbird feeder from freezing up while the birds struggled to find food and stay warm.
Even the local park road looked like ice skates were needed rather than hiking boots.
Rivers that normally flow free were iced over.
Famous Multnomah Falls in the Columbia River Gorge received a makeover as well.
